Agentic Workflows
Build, run and govern Athia workflows that connect agents, tools, approvals and payment actions.
On this page
Agentic Workflows turn a repeatable payment objective into an observable operating process. A workflow can collect context, ask specialist agents to reason, branch on evidence, pause for a person and execute an approved action—without hiding the path it took.
What the workflow interface contains#
The workflow builder is organized around the same objects used at runtime:
How an agentic loop works#
Unlike a fixed sequence, an agentic loop can evaluate progress and choose what to do next within defined boundaries.
The loop is bounded by the workflow definition. Agents receive only approved connections and tools; budgets, iteration limits and timeouts stop an open-ended run; conditions and approvals determine when an action is allowed.
Triggers and composition#
Start from any approved signal
Choose a trigger to see how it enters the same governed workflow runtime.
Review an acceptance opportunity now
Compose common steps once, then reuse them across payment operations.
- 1Collect context
- 2Validate evidence
- 3Request approval
Continue to an approved action, another workflow, or a measured result.
Specialist workflow families#
Athia's workflow library is organized around specialist roles. They can run on their own or be composed by an orchestrator, depending on the objective and the capabilities enabled for your account.
| Family | Specialist roles | Typical contribution |
|---|---|---|
| Conversation | Ask Athia, chatbot and copilot workflows | Understand the request, retain the conversation context and present the result |
| Data analysis | Data analyst, metrics analyst and query refinement | Build and validate the analysis required for a focused payment question |
| Research | Researcher and deep-dive explorer | Plan a multi-step investigation, test drivers and assemble the evidence |
| Knowledge | Knowledge expert | Retrieve approved definitions, policies and account context before reasoning |
| Strategy | Strategy director and strategy orchestrator | Rank opportunities and coordinate analysis, review and execution steps |
| Payment performance | Acceptance, fraud and cost analysts | Apply domain-specific checks and measures to a payment objective |
| Quality improvement | Ask Athia improvement and evaluation workflows | Review weak outcomes and turn evaluation evidence into a candidate improvement |
These are reusable workflow patterns, not unrestricted personas. Each role receives the tools, connections and limits assigned to its definition, and its output can be checked by another node before it is used.
Example: acceptance opportunity loop#
This pattern turns a recurring approval-rate review into a controlled process:
- A schedule starts the workflow for a selected market and time window.
- A research agent compares current performance with its baseline and tests likely drivers.
- A condition continues only when volume, expected lift and confidence meet the configured thresholds.
- A human checkpoint shows the evidence and proposed experiment.
- On approval, the workflow creates a controlled experiment; on rejection, it records the decision and ends.
- The workflow monitors the experiment and prepares an outcome readout before any promotion decision.
This same pattern supports cost, fraud, decline, processor-performance and message-configuration investigations by changing the specialists, evidence and action nodes.
Run safely#
| Control | What it protects |
|---|---|
| Permissions and approved connections | Which data and external systems a workflow can reach |
| Budgets and iteration limits | Maximum model, tool and loop consumption |
| Timeouts, retries and fallbacks | How transient failures are handled without running forever |
| Wait and resume | Long-running work and human decisions without losing state |
| Human approval | High-impact actions before they affect configuration or traffic |
| Simulation | Workflow behavior before a live action is allowed |
| Versioned definitions | Reproducibility, comparison and rollback |
| Traces and event history | Who or what acted, with which inputs, and what happened next |
